4.3 WWW and ftp server

WWW

As the number of WWW servers is growing very rapidly, we restrict ourselves to a few sites, which are the most popular ones. If you connect to these sites, you are also referred to many other sites and can directly connect to them as well.

The well--known statlib server offers WWW on the home page
HTTP://LIB.STAT.CMU.EDU/. There is lots of information, and a good collection of data sets from different sources like text monographs or the Journal of Computational Statistics and Graphics, and JASA.

The World Wide Web Virtual Library of the University of Florida offers in its statistics section a good overview, statistical journals related material, extracts of some usenet sections, a list of open positions, and more
(HTTP://WWW.STAT.UFL.EDU/VLIB/STATISTICS.HTML/).

The University of Michigan, School of Information and Library studies, has a very helpful index of many resources in WWW and can be used subject--oriented (HTTP://ASA.UGL.LIB.UMICH.EDU/CHDOCS/STATISTICS/
STAT_GUIDE_HOME.HTML/).

ftp

ftp is still very popular and we list in the following the most common ftp servers together with a very short description of what to find there. If known, other services offered by the site are listed in parentheses.
