5.1 FAQs

Nearly all of the lists have a collection of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions), which are maintained so that the same questions are not raised repeatedly on the list. An FAQ file simply contains the most frequently asked questions and their answers.

Before one starts to participate actively, one should retrieve the FAQ file and read it, such that questions annoying other subscribers (because they appear so frequently) are avoided. For a variety of common lists, the anonymous ftp server rtfm.mit.edu stores FAQ files.
